Welcome
Station 45 - home of Anderson Cleary, the youngest Chief in the history of Cascade. This man gave his all for the station. He brought it back from the brink of closure as a Captain. He remodeled the building, made sure that everything out of date was improved and replaced. However, the station soon came upon turmoil as it was torn in half by the actions of two men. Even after all the close calls he had gone through, nothing could take him away from his beloved station and job. That was until his life was taken in the performance of his duties. It left the station in shock of losing their leader and friend.

As they gave the highly decorated hero his final ride on the truck and laid him to rest, a new threat came to Station 45 and the two others in the city. A pyromaniac was about to make his mark on the city and give this station a new threat to face without their leader. This wasn't their only problem. The actions of two men a few weeks before Anderson's death left the station torn. Five crew members and a Captain was replaced and left a gap in the personnel. Now this burden rests upon the shoulders of a new Chief and old friend to Anderson - Gavin O'Leary.

Duckie laughed. "It's my place in life," she said with a smile, "and if I weren;t so hell-bent on being a part of the system, maybe I'd be a professional clothing advisor." She smiled, closing her eyes with a slight chuckle as Emily headed to the dressing room. Part of the talent she had aquired came from visiting the stores with enough frequency to understand the selection. The other part came from being able to read people fairly easily.

Waiting for Emily to try on the shirts she had chosen, Duckie meandered the store, looking at different shirts that she liked for herself. She wasn't going to purchase anything because she still needed to go through her expansive wardrobe and clear it out. What didn't fit or what she no longer wore went to a homeless shelter down the street from her apartment. It was something she tried to do in the Summer and in the Winter. After all, if she wasn't going to use them, why not give them to someone who would? At least, that was her logic.

Duckie clapped when Emily returned, announcing that she liked them all. "I try," she said with a laugh, "you know, someone's gotta worm their way into your head and let you still feel comfortable in your own skin but also look good in it." She stuck her tounge out at Emily.

Raising a brow as Emily grabbed her hand and pressed it to her stomach, Duckie about had a heart attack when she felt the little thump against her palm. "Hi, Peanut," she said with a smile, "you're bound and determined to not let Mommy forget you're in there, huh?" She laughed, looking to Emily. "You've got an active one, for sure. Takes after you and Sean."

Waiting for Emily to finish checking out, Duckie chuckled. "This reminds me of the first time we really met. I think you were dressed incredibly similarly," she noted with a smile.

Emily needed to clean out her closet too. Sean hardly had a place to hang up any clothes in the closet, if one could believe that. Emily had her uniforms for work, numerous pairs of jeans, sweaters, and her dress uniform. Duckie had successfully outfitted her with lots of clothes, both casual and clothes she could wear out for an evening. Even without her friends assistance she'd managed to add a few things to her wardrobe that she knew the medic would be proud of. For having no fashion sense at all, she had managed to learn a few things. Sean wasn't entirely pleased, considering that she was spending money on clothes that she really didn't need, and was slowly but surely pushing him out of his own bedroom.

Em rolled her eyes playfully at her friend. "Duckie, if anyone else said that, it'd be creepy", she said with a grin. When she mentioned that her friend knew her better than she knew herself, it wasn't far from the God's honest truth. After all, her father had put it best when he'd said that she didn't know anything other than firefighting. Of course, he'd said that to Sean, and he had begged to differ. That conversation had led to fisticuffs, and a wonderful first meeting between her then husband-to-be and her dad. She had warned Sean though - her father was a hard-ass sonofabitch who didn't take any bull shit. Sean had learned that the hard way.

Emily smiled warmly at her friend as the expression on her face changed, having felt the little nudge from the baby. When she mentioned that the baby took after both she and Sean, she sighed heavily. "The kid'll be born wearing full turnout gear - I can tell already", she said, sounding nearly defeated. That was her fear, and though the likelihood was low that her child would become a firefighter and follow in its parents footsteps, there was the odd chance. Emily had already decided to dedicate herself to showing the child all the other opportunities out there. If firefighting turned out to be the path they chose, there truly was little she could do. After all, she knew what it was like to have parents that didn't support your dreams.

With bags in tow, Emily exited the store with the paramedic, then started laughing at her friends comment. "Minus the sweater, yeah", she grinned. "Some things just don't change, Ducks". She shook her head lightly. "Maybe if I keep dressing like this, our friendship will last forever, ya think?" Emily knew that their friendship would withstand far more than wardrobe mishaps and fashion faut-pas. It was build on a strong foundation, and the 'fighter was convinced that it would withstand absolutely anything. "Where to now?"

"Nu-uh," Duckie disagreed with her friend, "baby will not. Baby will spend too much time in the paramedics' bay with me to even consider being a 'fighter." She chuckled knowing Emily would let the child be whatever it wanted to be, but also knowing that Emily hoped against hope for a child who didn't want to follow in Mommy and Daddy's footsteps. She knew, too, that the likelihood of the child growing up to choose the same career was slim. It rarely happened that way. "Besides, Peanut'll probably be more interested in biology or something and become world famous that way." She smiled cheekily before meandering off to the next store, Emily in tow.

"I call teaching Peanut how to shop, as if that wasn't obvious. Boy or girl, ya know, everyone needs to know how to shop. After all, if you have yourself a little boy, he's gunna have a girlfriend one day he'll have to buy the perfect presents for. And, if you have a little girl, she'll need to know what to expect from her beau." She smiled at Emily as they walked in the Lucky Brand denim store. Once more, Duckie hit the racks and shelves keeping a constant up talk with Emily.

She pulled out a couple of pieces, held them up to Emily, shook her head with a disapproving 'mm-mm' and put them back. Finally, she found a pair she liked, a slightly looser style which would be more comfortable. It was low rise with a slightly flare cut which drew attention to the shapliness of someone's legs, and with Em's toned muscles, she had a nice set of legs on her. The low rise would feel nice on her stomach until the baby forced Emily into maternity wear or Duckie to get creative in the sweats department. She picked one size larger than normal for Emily to ensure the comfort. "Okay, we're hitting for comfort and for... uh... as little attention on the belly as possible since I know you'll freak if a stranger rubs baby." She handed the pair off to her friend. "Lemme know what you like, what you don't. Try a couple of your new shirts with it to see how you look with the full set, and we'll just go from there. We can also do a classic fit which would put your tummy under the belt, but it wouldn't look quite as stylish on you. A little too Steve Urkel" Jeans, Duckie knew, were the most difficult thing for anyone to shop for. If they found a couple of style varieties Emily liked, it would be awesome. Otherwise, they could find different colors and looks within a preferred style.

"I want to see you in them, though," she added as they went to the dressing rooms once again, "just to get a visual." She waited while Emily changed, sitting on the bench and responding to a text message she had received from her typical bus partner. They had become friends over the years and kept in almost constant touch. They were each others pillars on tough calls and had an amazing working relationship.

Em smiled mischievously. "Does that mean I can call you to babysit?", she asked, grinning broadly. Sean had already told her that he'd take leave from the station in order to stay home and take care of the baby, so that did relieve some of the stress she was going through. However, she wouldn't be able to work her regular shifts due to the fact that she wouldn't be able to sleep much on her down time. That was, unless her baby was sleeping through the nights by the age of one month. That, she figured, would take nothing short of a miracle. In reality, Em was a ball of nerves at this point, wishing to be rid of her prego belly, while wishing that baby wouldn't come. Day by day she was growing more and more used to the idea, but it was still very foreign to her.

IFSTA manuals had been replaced by "What to expect when you're Expecting", and other Mommy-like magazines, trying to ready herself for the role she was about to step into. Firefighting, she was thinking, would be easier than raising a child. Following her friend towards the next store, she took stock of what she had already purchased. Though Sean wouldn't likely enjoy seeing the bank statement, Emily was content with her purchases, and did need clothes. After all, she couldn't get away with wearing his tees for much longer around the station without the guys either bothering her or Sean. Right now, they were pretty much leaving her alone, knowing that her hormones were a little out of whack and she tended to be a bit more bitchy than normal.

"You have my blessing on teaching the kid how to shop. We both know how well I'd do", she laughed. Emily didn't shop, unless she really had to, and even then she only picked up the bare necessities. A new bra, some sports socks, underwear, and sometimes jeans and a t-shirt tended to be her comfort zone. She could be stylish to a point, depending on the fashion tips Duckie had given her, but for big purchases she called her friend for help. Em watched as Duckie went to town, rummaging through different pairs of jeans until she found exactly what she was looking for. Em poked and prodded at some of the denim, but truly didn't know what she was looking for.

She took the pair of jeans from her friend, and listened as the medic explained why she'd picked them. Of course she wanted to see the end result, and Em had figured on letting Duckie see, just in case they didn't fit her as well as they should. Emily plodded along as she was herded to the changing rooms again, and headed in, locking the stall behind her. Though she mainly wore straight-leg boot cut jeans, Duckie had introduced her to the world of denim outside of the box, and she didn't always mind wearing the low-rise. Slipping into them, she buttoned them and looked in the mirror. They were comfortable, and loose enough that they weren't bothering her belly, and they really did wonders for her legs. Slipping out of her hoody, she tried on one of the shirts she'd bought and found that it went quite well together.

Sliding the lock, she stuck her head out the door and spotted her friend. "Ducks", she said, getting her friend's attention, "What do ya think?", she asked. While she liked the pants, she wanted her fashionista's opinion, knowing that if the jeans didn't do her justice, her friend would let her know and would find something that did. Why her friend didn't work as a fashion consultant on a show like "What Not to Wear", or something similar, she didn't know, but it was truly a good thing she didn't. She made one hell of a paramedic, and Emily honestly appreciated her friendship. And fashion advice.
