Welcome
Station 45 - home of Anderson Cleary, the youngest Chief in the history of Cascade. This man gave his all for the station. He brought it back from the brink of closure as a Captain. He remodeled the building, made sure that everything out of date was improved and replaced. However, the station soon came upon turmoil as it was torn in half by the actions of two men. Even after all the close calls he had gone through, nothing could take him away from his beloved station and job. That was until his life was taken in the performance of his duties. It left the station in shock of losing their leader and friend.

As they gave the highly decorated hero his final ride on the truck and laid him to rest, a new threat came to Station 45 and the two others in the city. A pyromaniac was about to make his mark on the city and give this station a new threat to face without their leader. This wasn't their only problem. The actions of two men a few weeks before Anderson's death left the station torn. Five crew members and a Captain was replaced and left a gap in the personnel. Now this burden rests upon the shoulders of a new Chief and old friend to Anderson - Gavin O'Leary.

Moose shrugged at her comment on his ability to lie. He was a good enough liar, alright, but she had a point. No one could possibly be comfortable in one of those chairs. Still, he'd only said it because he didn't want her to feel bad that the only sleep he'd managed to get had left him sore and stiff. "I never said I was comfy - just good", he explained. Stiff? Yes. Sore? A little. But good? Definitely. He wouldn't break his promise over a sore back. She needed someone and had explicitly asked him to stay with her. He'd stay by her side until someone else took over that duty or she truly ordered him away. Her mentioning that he ought to get some quality rest before his next shift hadn't been serious. He could tell that she still needed someone, especially now that she was awake.

A knock on the door made Elliott turn in his seat a bit to see who it was coming to visit. It was a woman that Michelle obviously knew, though Elliott didn't recognize. He heard Michelle call the woman Katie, and he returned the woman's smile politely as she rattled off Jamie's status. He was glad to hear that the young boy had finally passed out and was resting. He had dozed off while Elliott had been with him, but Moose had doubted that the slumber would persist, and Jamie needed to rest. His mental health rested on the fact that he would be well rested and able to process what had happened.

Suffice to say Elliott felt more than a little awkward in the room now. "Elliott Johnson", Elliott responded, introducing himself to Katie. He glanced to his pile of bunker gear in the corner then to the coffee cup in his hands. Her explanation of family friend was enough for Elliott and he left it at that. If Michelle wanted to explain it all later, he knew that she would, but he wouldn't press for details that he didn't feel entitled to. After all, his relationship with Michelle did not extend much beyond being professional, though he did consider her a friend. Spending hour after hour with the same person poring over crucial pieces of evidence while working towards the same goal tended to forge a bond between people - one not easily broken.

Moose took a sip of coffee, the black liquid cooling off a bit though it was still hot. The silence that had befallen the room was awkward to say the least, and Elliott didn't know what to say. It appeared that Michelle didn't know what to say either - a rarity. He stood, stretching as he did so, and glanced back and forth between Michelle and her friend. "I'll leave you two alone for a bit", he said, figuring that Michelle would appreciate the time to visit with Katie. He sat his coffee down on the bedside table and walked over to his bunker gear, his sock feet making virtually no noise as he crossed the floor. He stepped into his boots, pulling his pants up and doing up the clasp, patting the velcro closed. He left his suspenders hanging down and retrieved his coffee. He didn't want to walk around barefoot anymore, and planned on just walking around the hospital to wake himself up a bit more. Maybe even another cup of coffee was in order - he wasn't sure.

"Thanks, El," Michelle murmured. She needed to debrief her partner on who Elliott was, and what she knew of the whole situation. Still, she wasn't quite ready for Elliott to go too far. It was just easier to explain a situation when someone wasn't in the room. And, later, she would make things easy for Elliott. If he didn't think she was a whore for it later, she would be greatful. If he thought she was a whore, so be it, but it would really interrupt their working relationship. And, she needed him for a case. So, for at least that, she hoped all went well. But, also because he was becoming a friend to her, and she saw him as someone she could trust and rely on. Not many people in her life met that criteria.

She broke everything down for Katie in about twenty minutes, answering the questions she had she was able. When Elliott hadn't come back by that time, she asked a nurse to try and find him. She didn't think he'd leave his bunker gear in the room and take off, so she figured he was occupying himself within the confines of the hospital somewhere. Katie had snuggled in so she was laying in the bed next to Michelle with the Marshal's head against her shoulder. Michelle was a strong woman, but a lack of human contact would kill her. Even if she were being beaten, it would be something. Complete deprivation would drive her insane in every sense of the word.

"Hey," Katie said when Elliott returned, "Thanks for being there for both Misha and Jamie." Michelle was starting to fall back asleep. She had been wide awake, but, evidently, that energy was quickly drained from her. She could still hear, but it was a sort of drifting in and out of what was being said. "I know it means a lot to Michelle. She doesn't get close to people very easily, and Ricky was her pillar."

She paused, playing with Michelle's hair. They were both very dominant women, but it was clear Katie was more dominant than Michelle just from the way she sat, and the way she protected the brunette. "Uh, about earlier. Michelle will probably explain everything to you, and I'll leave that to her since she's your friend, but normally I wouldn't have kissed her in front of someone. I was just really freaked out. Sorry if I freaked you out." Michelle had mentioned to her that she didn't really know how Elliott felt about sexuality and that she had hoped that hadn't scared him off. Polyamorous relationships, too, tended to creep people out, although it wasn't even really one of those, either.

Despite the fact that he was a man, Elliott tended to be rather intuitive at times, and now was one of those times. He knew that what the two women needed at the moment was some time to themselves, and Moose was more than happy to grant them that. After all, he didn't know who Katie was, and he'd feel like no more than excess baggage as the two caught up. And, there was definitely some catching up to do. He wasn't sure what Katie knew, but she obviously knew enough that Michelle had been hospitalized, as well as her son. Whether she knew that Ricky was dead was another thing, and he felt best if he left Michelle to explain that on her own.

So, he slipped from the room and closed the door behind him, the lug soles of his fire boots thudding loudly on the floor as he wandered the halls. He garnered a few stares from some cleaning staff that were busy washing the floors, but the nurses paid him no attention now. Surely word had spread that he was wandering, and they didn't care anymore. After all, asking a firefighter to leave was somewhat taboo, even if it was long past visiting hours. He headed over to the paediatrics unit and checked in on Jamie, but he was still sleeping soundly, his body giving in to the meds that they were undoubtedly feeding him. He felt bad for the young boy and wondered how he would adjust to not having a father figure in his life. He couldn't sympathize with him, not having suffered that loss himself, but he knew it couldn't be easy. He'd been on the outside of that pain before, watching others cope. It wasn't usually pretty.

It hadn't quite been a half an hour when a nurse caught up to him as he stood in the hallway, staring out the window into the darkness outside. She told him that Michelle was asking for him, so he headed back towards her room. Silently, he slipped back into the room - Michelle was starting to doze off again. That was a welcomed sight for him, considering she hadn't really rested much since she'd been admitted. He took up his post in the chair next to her bed, somewhat staring at the floor as Katie spoke to him. In his typical modest fashion, he shrugged off the comment - he didn't see it as anything extraordinary, and he felt that he owed her this much.

"I wouldn't have it any other way. She's going to need someone to be there for her", he explained, "Jamie too". The boy especially, he thought. "I wanna be there every step of the way, if she'll let me". Moose looked at the nearly empty coffee cup in his hands and sighed. When the tones had gone off at the station, he hadn't envisioned this, and though he'd suppressed the memories that it had dredged up, he was still in a state of shock. Most calls he ran left him with a sense of anonymity when he didn't know the victims. Tonight was different. Though he hadn't personally known Ricky, he knew Michelle, and shared her pain.

Katie's voice shattered Elliott's train of thought and brought him back into the present. He looked up, pretty much knowing exactly where this was going, and he didn't like it. He didn't want to discuss anything of that sort while Katie was in the room - that was a discussion best left between him and the Marshall. He was open-minded though, which was quite possibly his saving grace. He was by no means a judgmental person, and while he had been weirded out just a tad, he would definitely not hold it against either of them. "I'm just gonna pretend that it never happened - at least, not until Michelle explains things a little more thoroughly", he explained to her. He was still feeling a bit awkward, but less than before. After all, everyone had their deep, dark secrets. God knows Elliott did.
